Gifts for Gardeners 2009: For gardeners who eat

Many thanks to National Geographic for solving the problem of the perfect gift. This glistening, gleaming book is sure to seduce even the least-interested diner.

Chapters on Seasonal Delights, Favorite Street Foods, Great Food Towns, Ultimate Luxuries and more are artfully interspersed with Top Ten lists on everything from Best Old-Fashioned Candy Stores to Extreme Restaurants.

This book belongs on your coffee table to intrigue and entertain your guests, or in your hands as the ideal host gift.

Available from National Geographic or your local bookstore.

Warning: Do not read this book on an empty stomach. Possible side effects include a troublesome itch for international travel, and a rash of foreign food cooking. Consult your physician if a large meal and repeated doses of the book do not resolve your symptoms.

I received a complimentary review copy of this book.

Susie, It's a handsome book and such fun to dip into. Exciting to find some of your favorite places mentioned too. I think they did a great job with this.

Welcome Melanie! Brilliant idea. It's just the ticket for those waiting rooms. Added your terrific blog, Northern Gardeners Almanac, to my international blog roll.

I remember back in the day (and there were nights then too) when my father was a NG subscriber. The photographs were always stunning and I often wondered if I might ever submit something. I'm still wondering. And now I'm a hungry wonderer.

Welcome Write Gardener! The National Geographic photos are as luscious as ever and the prose is engaging. Shake open your napkin and dig in! Your thoughtful Pennsylvania blog is now on my Midwestern/Eastern blog roll.

This is dangerous reading. I've had the Sushi in Kyoto, Bulgoki in Korea (lots), some Vietnamese food and that Salmon...........mmmmm, that Salmon - I've only had, um, 4-5 tons of it in the NorthWest, lol. I should probably be amazed I'm not sick of it, but there is little better. Maple syrup? Lord, there goes the neighborhood. Neat book, indeed. They actually provide a nice look just from the website. Thanks. I'll go grab some bologna now.

Welcome Steve! The NG link shows lots of pages from the first chapter. It's a quality book. I enjoyed reading your recent blog post on landscaping in the high desert of Reno. Added you to the blogroll in the "Range of Garden Issues" section since you write about NV, KY and the NW.
