Love blooms in Asheville, North Carolina

I feel like you're my soul mate, Alice!

I feel that way too, George, and it's only been an hour since we met.

Alice, I want to know every marvelous detail about you. Where do you live, my sweet?

I have a Tudor house in Montford--

My favorite neighborhood!

And I grow a lot of shade plants--

I do too!

Especially rhododendrons.

Native rhododendrons?

Oh, all kinds. You know George, there are so many pretty hybrids and I--

This won't work Alice.

What?! What do you mean?

I can't possibly have a relationship with someone who grows non-native plants.

Tina and Emily, Hey, we all have our deal-breakers. Mine would have been cactus.

There's still hope, I'm sure. I'm waiting for ...to be continued. Maybe they have a glass of organic wine or two? And then...

Welcome Randy! I have a lot of kin in Raleigh, NC and we visit Asheville regularly.

Town Mouse, Hmm, I had thought it was the end of the line for Alice and George, but perhaps this budding relationship can be saved?

What would I do without you, DP?

Raquel, Ah, love in the garden....

Alice, Well, since "you" are in Asheville, an article about the Biltmore gardens is in order?

Funny! I too would like to see the second chapter. Perhaps the wine will soften the jagged edges of idealism.

Well, if you live in Asheville, there's no excuse for hybrids. You can find Catawba and Rosebay growing with wild abandon anywhere in the moutains nearby.

Thanks very much for your comments on my post about "Mom and Cosmology." I'm very jealous of your location. You can go either to the northern Sierras or to Lassen or Shasta with no problem at all.

George better be careful! If I learned one thing from all the other 99 word short stories on gardenrant, it's that gardeners can be a bloodthirsty bunch with a very liberal view of what sort of things can serve as "organic compost."

Welcome Jenny! Yes, the Asheville area is a paradise of native Rhododendrons, absolutely magical. I prefer the Smokies to the Sierras but it's good to be living near the wild edge of nature.
